Both sides of the fear of love, and the unfulfilled search

Waking up with this one

her eyes were smiling

she touched my face

and kissed my bare shoulder

I shine back at her

with a wistful silence

regretting I may miss her

through a weary conviction

She won’t be back again

she’s too sweet to toss

like stones across a lake

till the handful is gone

And waking up with this one

            I can’t stop my eyes

            from smiling so brightly

            can’t help but kiss her

            She loved the night

            she’ll like the morning

but in her eyes I see

            the weary conviction of goodbyes

            She'll have me back again

            and again till it stops-

            and my last stone

            she's skipped across the water

Interesting. Do they have a relationship or not?

You've managed to avoid some cliches of layout by indicating neatly how the two sides of the search for love are shown in two (separate, I think?) encounters; by that small indentation of the second half of the poem. Liked the metaphor of the handful of stones, but it does presuppose that at some time you'll run out. How will you know when to keep one? :)

Second verse - wistful - kind of sums this one up. Not bad on it either. Liked the metaphor too.

yes, two seperate encounters. Fellpony, your question is exactly what I had in mind, one of life's great challenges.

thanks all,

Is it two different women?

It sounds sort of like the first 3 verses are about a women who longs for him, but he only feels casual about, and the second three is another women who he is in love with, but feels casually about him.

I didn't completely understand it, but I liked it. It was different, and beautifully written.
