Airplane Worries

I wrote this about the anxiety I get before I travel, specifically when I was getting ready to go on a trip to Europe (I live in Canada).

I'm all set to go, all is fresh

I wonder why my stomach feels that way it does

Like I'm being ejected from a catapult

Or being led to my death

And winning an award at the

Same time

As the clock hands go around

My skin turns slimy with

Nervous sweat

My eyes can feel my anxiety

They can't focus

I wonder what it would be like

If I wasn't leaving at all

Or if I died in the airplane

Or if I was robbed when I got

To my destination

Or if the world collapsed

Mid-flight

And we were all suspended in air

Like a creative thought on a death bed

Like love with no body

Like clouds, floating on

Without wind, without gravity

2

Tick, tock

The watch hands keep reminding me

That time is not going to stop

Not for me, not for my anxious mind

Time goes on, just like the birds keep flying

Money keeps destroying

Everyone on the news keeps dying

And the universe keeps?

And I'm sitting here, getting anxious

Because I'm flying, over this

Whole world, the whole god damn

Thing, turning, killing, feeding, living

Not worrying about me, or my anxiety.

Great vocab

You have a rather great vocabulary and know how to use it... I just don't particularly like how it's used in this poem because it just doesn't flow. It doesn't have that snap, or grace that poetry usually has. Interesting read, nontheless.

First two verses are an interesting enough hook, the next two pick up the pace and clearly evoke the adrenaline rush.....it loses something after that where you have divided it and the last part lets it down as it does not flow so well. Almost like reading two poems really.
