magic

magic boils the blood
and stops the clocks.....

once I had visions
trawled from the depths
saw magic on paper
magic on screens
magic in music

I read Peake
Gloomy Gormenghast
I was devoured by owls
I ran from Swelter's kitchen

I saw Kurasawa
The Throne of Blood
no subtlety
just images sublime
- the hags on the heath
boiling their brew
potions for ailments
smells you could chew...

I heard blues
and the purity of pain
oh strange hanging fruit

...magic boiled the blood
and stopped the clocks

but magic no longer breathes
in my brittle bones

my clocks tick on..

I am wise
I am scholarly
I am serious

But I cannot dream.

I liked this very much. Well structured and a mint ending. Well done! Thanks for the read.

I liked this too. Everything well balanced, and a poignant ending (although simply by writing this, it's evident that there is a dream, incubating there... The only verse which didn't work for me was the Kurosawa verse: "images sublime" reads like a phrase from a 19th-century hymn (just "sublime images" would have been fine, and more in keeping with the rest of the poem), and I wasn't sure why this verse needed to rhyme when the others didn't. But apart from these minor quibbles, I really liked it.

dog, just wow.

I love this work, it's the kind of thing that makes me wish i'd written it. It's angsty in a very grown up way, and i like the hint of revelation in the last few stanzas. It seems like the character has come out of a period of
*something*, and seems to be better for it, but perhaps isn't...

fantastic, well done!
