Saturday Night Girl

This is my Valentines Day piece.                                    360 words

Back when I was in high school, and through college most guys had their Saturday Night Date. Myself included. Probably from the time I was a high school freshman right up until just before I got married actually.

You guys know what I mean. Right ? You had your Friday night date, a wild and crazy chick that was up for just about anything. Cute, sexy, sassy. Short skirts, tube tops, shot and a beer type and just a little bit dangerous. Out there on the edge.

OHHH YEAH! The perfect companion for a Friday night.
“Woooo Haaaa ! I’m gonna grab my Friday night gal and we are going to PARRRTEEEE!”

She was wild and crazy ! And I liked wild and crazy. On Friday night.

But your Saturday Night date was a different girl. She was special. You washed your car. You ironed a clean shirt and combed your hair when you were going out on Saturday night, with her. She wore skirts that went to her knees. She folded her hands in her lap when she sat. She used a napkin. Her voice was soft and easy. Her English was correct. She drank tea.

She was special. You took her home to meet your mother.

“See ma? I’m not a complete loss. See this nice girl that I brought home. She came willingly.”

She talked to my mother about which blouse coordinates better with which skirt. And what style and color curtains would go best in the dining room. My mother was impressed. She was my Saturday Night Girl. And she always made me want to be just a little bit better. I wanted to be a better person when I was with her.

“You’re gonna’ need a lot of work but there’s an outside chance that you’re salvageable.” Is what she was no doubt thinking.

So. What happened to your Saturday night girl? Were you smart enough, lucky enough to hang on to her ?

I was.

I married my Saturday Night girl.

Happy Valentines Day Darling!

 Always and forever........

Pretty sweet. There's a good bit of energy in this piece. :)

You write well. But I hate the content. Sorry to ruin your Valentine Day sentiments. I am a woman, and I've never been a Friday night gal. But as a woman I feel exploited, used and cheapened. I find it hard to believe any woman would find this piece flattering whether she is a Saturday night girl or any other night girl. Sorry to vent my anger, but I am angry at the outrageous attitude behind this piece.

Did the Saturday Night Girl know about the Friday Night Girl and vice versa? I do think the Saturday Night Girl is by far the better choice, but would you be her Saturday or Friday Night Boy?
Although you do highlight her strengths, I doubt if your Saturday Night Girl will be happy to know about a Friday Night Girl. ;)

Your Friday night girl was our Thursday night girl (Friday would be the wife. And Saturday was football and non-stop heavy drinking with very little female interruption).

Liked the way you juxtaposed the two types, particularly the details, such as tea drinking and matching curtains, and the idea of explaining that "she came willingly". Your descriptions reminded me a little of US high school-type films. Can't recall any of us having a car, mind you - and certainly not one worth washing. Enjoyable read.

It all depended on how rich my form was at the time. Youth is all about gaining experience. Your writing had a certain freshness about it. I knew what was coming at the end - and it was pretty shmaltzy (real word?) but it just about worked.

As for 'as a woman,' a whole other topic.

Thank you one and all for taking time to read and comment on my writing. It is so much appreciated.

It's obvious that some here were neither Friday night nor Saturday night girls and carry a load of baggage still. And that is too bad. :?

It is all in fun you know. Just trying to have a little fun and work on my writing technique.

It comes down to. Did you settle? Did you just grab onto the best thing at the time? Or did you wait for the right person? Or, did you just get lucky?

My wife of thirty years, my Saturday night girl, was tickled to death when she read this. She printed it and brought it to her office to post on her bulletin board.

cheers all. Happy Valentines Day!! :p
