I noticed that Bollywood, Hong Kong action cinema and Hollywood each have their own standard plots and cliches. | Written by Bottleblondesurfer (3351 comments posted) 13th February 2008 | Yes I suppose they all have one thing in common, A happy End. You got to have that, regardless. I think you managed to include most of the cliched settings. I like the idea of fusion. You could have Hugh Grant and Shilpa Shetty machine gunning the henchmen who are all doing that Bollywood dancing while Samuel Jackson quotes the koran before wasting the villains....It's getting silly now. Good idea though. | Written by Fledermaus (3280 comments posted) 13th February 2008 | Thanks BBS. Well, the few Indian films I have seen all ended with the death of one of the two lovers and an unhappy marriage for the other, while many Chinese films I saw also ended with the death of the main characters, so not exactly happy endings. Makes me think of an American film in which the Irish main character (played by Brad Pitt) is dying and the other one (Harrison Ford) tells him "everything is gonna be OK", upon which the first one replies that that would be the case in an American story, but that "this is an Irish story"... But then, perhaps I'm just watching sad movies... Should watch more stuff with happy endings I guess.

It's in French and a bit of a "chick flick" so you have been warned. Good film, though. | Written by Fledermaus (3280 comments posted) 14th February 2008 | Thanks BBS. Will look it up and see if I can find it somewhere | Hi Fledermaus Written by jean.day (2279 comments posted) 23rd February 2008 | | I didn't really understand this, but I appreciate it from the composition point of view. It is quite a task to find so few words to convey such a lot of meaning. I haven't been to the cinema for years - and then only go to the very conventional movies. I think Billie Elliot was the last one I saw. | Written by Fledermaus (3280 comments posted) 23rd February 2008 | Hi Jean. It was mainly a bit of silliness, but Mumbai, Hollywood and Hong Kong are the biggest producers of films and each has their own cliches. Every 'stanza' consists of three lines: A Bollywood cliche, a Hong Kong cliche and a Hollywood cliche. Thus: A stereotypical Bollywood film involves an impossible love, a woman who has to marry against her will, a lot of singing and dancing and in the end one of the two lovers (or both) die tragically. A stereotypical Hong Kong film involves a young man seeking vengeance, some martial arts master, a girl that isn't happy with her subordinate position, calligraphy, lots of fighting and in the end the main character sacrifices himself. A stereotypical hollywood film involves a bad guy who has to be stopped, car pursuits, shooting and explosions, a tough independent girl, and it always has a happy end.
