Wood Rose: Prologue (katejayne)
By katejayne
18 February 2008
This is the starting to a piece i intend to complete.

As a young teenage girl, with many interests, i intend to flit between things, and thus never complete a story.

Here, I will attempt, hopefully with some help, to finish a novel.

My Darling Edward,

This note may be of surprise to you; an unexpected realisation of  the truth. For I can see us no longer together Dear, your heart lies elsewhere.
I tried to hold on: to believe that if i held on to the fragments of a love that once existed, it would be rekindled. Yet, the flames of our love were long ago doused by her presence. A fool I shall no longer be, for I can see her heart in your eyes. You crave her beauty and love more than mine, although she shall always remain out of your reach. Dear, you'll never lay a hand on her fair skin: she'll never be your wife.
I will not try and force you to regard me any longer. Why hold on to a burnt-out hope? Staying with me will only make you miserable- the least of my inentions, I assure you. I desire nothing but your complete, eternal happiness. With or without me.
Never allow my words to provoke your mind to believe I am letting you go with no fight; for darling, I have fought many a years for your heart.
One day, one precious day, you may realise the sincerity and deepness of my tender love. Until that day... I cannot pretend.

                                       Your ever loving friend,
                                                                      Elizabeth

What an understanding lady - not a bunny boiler then - or is it all pretence?

The letter sets up many possible story lines. I wonder where yours wil go?

There were a couple of odd constructions and I think that should be pretend at the end there.

I think you meant to post this in extended. It's ended up in non-fiction. Easily fixed: click on 'view my existing work', select this piece and change locations.

Phil.
