King Of The Common Ground

Another song lyric.  Someone asked for a link to hear the song, so here goes:

http://bandmix.co.uk/indiefolk/

Half witted plots in high viewer slots
actors acclaimed despite their limited range
Save your pity and your shame
for the public it's aimed
and don't give it up for that

'Cos their marketing attack's like a photocopied ass
where the original's destroyed but the copy stays intact
If there's quality there, they will duplicate that
until it fades away

(chorus)
Down,
so far down
and you're searching
for the crown
What once was lost
cannot be found
you were the king of the common ground
-

Take the corporation line for your money to bask
confiscate your mind and pump your body full of gas
'til you're motivated by their ultimate task of
selling shit en-masse

'Cos I've only got time for another sound-bite
judge a person by a look and a second on sight
that's something in common with the people I find
I'm all hollowed out inside

Down,
so far down
and you're searching
for the crown
What once was lost
cannot be found...
You were the king of the common ground

It seems I miss read the theme of the other song but you've nailed your colours so firmly to the mast here that I couldn't miss it.
Didn't Lou Reed do a song with that title? But I think it had a racial theme. I did think this had touch of the old man's famous bile about it and all the better for it. I liked the way this hid it's wit and cleverness as good songs should. You want the meaning to sneak up on you as you hum it not smack you in the face. I did like some of the lines
"Where the original’s destroyed but the copy stays intact"
"Confiscate your mind and pump your body full of gas"
just a couple that stood out for me.
Pity there's no way we can here the tune
cheers
Jane

Any chance of sticking an MP3 somewhere on the web with a link from here?

Due to popular demand (!) a link to the song has been added... It was never my intention to promote my music on here, I wouldn't wish to cheapen the site..but..hey..you asked for it! I'm currently posting some old lyrics as a sort of impetus to get me writing again...there's nothing like a bit of audience reaction to get the juices flowing :)

Hello NR.
Had a listen to your song, full marks for giving it a go. Not enough grunt for my liking, I’m more of a Devin Townsend sort of bloke. Not a criticism, just a preference.
Is the vocalist English? Sounded a bit Brian Molko, to me.

All the best,
Steve.
