For Children
I can do it
By punchy
22 February 2008
My first attempt at a positive thinking poem for children..
Also second verse third line  " make decisions" or " have opinions" I can't decide?

I can do it ,I can do it, I can reach up to the sky
I know I can be happy and it is OK to cry
It's good to show my feelings and let my voice be heard
My opinion it is valid so to hide it is absurd

I am special ,I am valued, I deserve my own success
I can do things cos I love them and not just to impress
Grown ups make decisions but that doesn't mean they're right
I'll learn from their behavior and I'll add it to my plight

People can be mean but more people can be kind
And if I look in to a person there is always good to find
I can understand and listen and I know what's right and wrong
I can show respect and goodness but most of all I'm strong

Okay, is it so lame that I'm 14, and I /need/ this poem. My boyfriend always tells me that if I'm depressed, to keep it to myself and never write depressing poetry.. so I kind of just stopped being myself. But now that I read this, I'ma start writing how I feel again! Thanks! I LOVE IT! :grin

There is nothing lame about needing to remind yourself how important you are. And go ahead and express yourself, you deserve it, it's who you are.
Thankyou so much for your review it means a lot .

Yup, it does what is says on the label.
I think any kid could take something from this. It's aspriational without being confrontational. I think you have gauged it about right, it's easy to step over the line into blaming or beligerence both of which are essentially negative. I think you managed to avoid that. I'msure this is something any adult would be happy to let a kid read.
Possibly stick with "make decisions" It's all about power.
cheers
