fear of fear, control, power over others through fear.

Sometimes they are left open
there is a purpose in this you see
it's good for what they do
to be sometimes seen
it shows us their power, control, contempt.

So at night the lights are left on,
doors and curtains left open
as if inviting us to go in and look,
as if we could not see enough
from the outside.

But we others have always been that way
shyly moving away from that which
we are fearful to confront,
that's why evil and politics
work so well together.

Now it's time to shut the book.
turn off the lights,
draw the curtains,
sleep well my friends, sleep well.

Not entirely sure what you're trying to tell here, but I guess it's something along the lines that the powerful sometimes do allow us to have a look at their methods, only to make us fear them?
That sounds like something that might have worked in the Middle Ages (exposing the corpses of executed opponents on the market square), but there's little in todays politicians which I fear. I usually see them as people that failed to get a job somewhere else...

Bernie - Did you not think that people might leave their curtains open because they do not like to be shut in? I'm one of those. I've got nothing to hide in my little home, and it has never crossed my mind that people might see it as "power, control or contempt". But I don't think you are really talking about this, but something deeper which I haven't understood. Sorry, but I am only a simple person.

and thanks for your comments, it's about control/ power that goverments/ security services have over the lives of ordinary people, we do I believe live in one of the most controlled countrys in the world, not going into this to deeply at the moment, but Orwell would have seen what is going on here, pity that most of us are in a state of self willed blindness.
