Flowers on a Thursday

For the February Lazy Writers Topic.

A monologue poem.

 They just arrived.
I didn’t ask for them –
Red roses in that plastic stuff.
Twelve of them.

What does this mean?

He never buys me roses,

Let alone sends me roses.

All bound up like that.

He’s having an affair.

He must be, otherwise…

So what if he is?

Do I care?

It’s Valentines Day!

Oh, of course!

What a fool not to remember

And look there’s a card.

To Clare, with love,
All my heart I send to you
I know not what more to say
Except to say again how much
I love you every day.

How lovely!
I'll put them in a vase,
They look so pretty#
I am lucky!

I knew there'd be
nothing going on.
Oh there's the phone -
it might be him.

"Hello? Rachel speaking."

Good poem and I enjoyed the twist in the end. I remember the only flowers my husband ever sent me came on Valentine's day. He was en route to Australia for a month, and saw a sign in the airport in Amsterdam, so did it on a whim.
