This probably belongs on a pet obituary site (I'm sure they exist) or a bird related blog, but what the hey...life is too short.
We'd seen this coming.
Our budgie died today.
He leaves behind
one long-term partner (his mirror),
and talk of a frantic affair with a perch.
Strange thing was:
throughout his life he'd been a loner;
preferred his cage than to venture
through open door,
so rarely touched the hands that fed him;
yet in those last few days
he came to meet us,
flying over to rest on shoulders,
nibble ears and nestle chins
as if to say:
'I knew you were here all along.
I'm going now,
will you miss me?'

Strangely, deeply moving... Written by mia_ms_kim (891 comments posted) 10th March 2008 | Very very impacting, I don't know why. Maybe it's because your bird reminds me of people. I knew a boy back in high school who cried his heart out when his budgie died. (I think he gave the budgie a funeral, too.) Although she had never been particularly attached to Bobo, our 7 year old daughter burst into tears when we gave her the news (I'd been rather worried if she hadn't). We buried Bobo in my mum-in law's garden in what is rapidly becoming a major pet cemetery. I'm not a fan of keeping birds as pets and if it'd been up to me we probably wouldn't have had a budgie, but the front room does seem very empty now..... | Written by Merioneth (79 comments posted) 25th April 2008 | 'I knew you were here all along. I'm going now, will you miss me?' Maybe I'm just overly sentimental or maybe you've got a way with words, or maybe a little of both, but I got really emotional when I read this line. I had a dog named Bobo that I lost to an ex when we broke up. He was my best friend and I loved him something fierce; I still do. I try not to think about him anymore but just hearing the name "Bobo" gets me choked up. Isn't that silly? I've also had budgies. First we got one, a male, and gave him a mirror that he would sit in front of and twitter to himself all day long. After a couple years I thought maybe he'd enjoy having a real friend to twitter at, so I got him a pretty little yellow female. He liked her alright but he still preferred the company of his mirror. Sometimes he'd be sitting in front of it, and she'd edge up beside him and he'd stick out one foot and push her away. It was funny and a little sad. ~Meri |
