Clerihews

Looked like he could eat ya
But his intrusive moustache
Just about strained corned beef hash

I must be an absolute philistine, I thought this was doggerel. My apologies, for being so crass. I used to love doggerel. Now I can love "Clerihews!"

I loved these little gems, so apt and so true. The spirit of long dead, but much loved characters encapsulated.

Any more? Charlie Chaplin?

Oh, I did overdo the "love" word, I haven't found the edit facility yet. :sigh

Very good, the first is the best. Thanks for increasing my knowledge of poetical forms, I now know at least two.

Thought I'd have a stab:

Bertrand Russell
had a large brain muscle
what it produced was not gossipy
but he did yap a lot about philosophy

Errol Flynn
wore a moustache so thin
ladies mistook it for elegant flair
in fact, it was some untrimmed nostril hair

Any good?
Thanks

Kind words Diddi, many thanks.

Nathan, I think I prefer yours to mine. Bertie and Errol
both clearly crying out for Clerihews. Strange that both philosophers and moustaches seem recurring themes. Let's give Arthur Schopenhaur and Jimmy Edwards a bash, eh?
Cheers, Nathan.

Never heard of clerihews. Every day's a school day!

Interesting pieces.

The form does kind of cry out for crudity.

A Clerihew?

Yet another type of poem. I am amazed at all the different metres. I really must get a book on poetry to find out more about it.

I certainly love these clerihews, from both of you. Great stuff.
