| Two Little Lambs (A poem for small children) | |

This is the time of the year when the children will see lots and lots of new lambs in the fields. I saw lots yesterday and many had on their little blue plastic coats to keep out the cold and the wet. This little short poem could be a centrepoint in a lesson and encourage children to speak about the lambs that they have seen. Here in Yorkshire, one small girl from a farm told me that she helps her father by feeding the baby lambs. Mother’s warm tongue licked her clean and dry And she saw her new world through her tiny eyes. Beside her lay also her little brother Soft and warm beside their mother. Twin lambs born into a snowy world Two little lambs so snuggly curled. Two lambs playing in the field, so free, ,Examining their field with its stream and trees, Learning that they’re also part of a flock, Racing and playing on the grass and rocks. “Mother, when we're big and strong like you – Tell us, what in the world will we ever do?” “You’ll wander the hills and climb over rocks And your lovely soft wool will make children’s socks.” Copyright 2008 www.whiteheadm.co.uk
