Butterfly haiku

A philosopher once dreamt he was a butterfly. Or was it the other way around?

A small butterfly;

At night he is an old man

In the state of Song.

What did his shrink think of that? Perhaps he had a butterfly mind which couldn't settle on one particular thing for long.

Another good one. I'm not sure that I understand it, but that doesn't really matter. I suppose in your dreams butterflies can sing.

Hi Josie and Jean.
I guess some explanation is needed here. Some 2400 years ago there was a philosopher in a country called Song who dreamt he was a butterfly, but when he woke up he realized it was only a dream. Then he wondered how he could know that; Maybe he was not a man that had dreamed of being a butterfly, but perhaps he was a butterfly dreaming he was a man. A bit strange, but a funny idea, who knows what butterflies are dreaming?

I was so intrigued by your poem I looked up your philosopher. Most interesting person. And your haiku is very intriguing.

Thanks Mia.
Funnily enough I had not heard of Zhuang Zi until a few weeks ago, but he seems to have had quite unconventional ideas. :)
