Ballad of Scotty's Bull
By Robru
23 March 2008

Just one of the incidents down on the farm

Scotty is our neighbor, just across the way,
                We share a common boundary,
                The river Castlereagh.

Last year Scotty went away somewhere overseas
And left his cattle in the river
For the shelter of the trees.

In our bottom paddock was a mob of lonely cows,
                Scotty's was a working bull,
                Most cows are mothers now.

I tried to chase that bull using different ways
But when I got up close to him
Our cows got him to stay.

I tried so very hard but still I lost that battle,
                Don't think I won a single round
                Against those lowly cattle.

But in twelve months or thereabouts
Those calves will all be sold
And we'll live well for quite a while,
                Cause BEEF IS SOLID GOLD.

I really liked your poem. Scotty's bull sounds a bit like little Cocky in my poem - a busy individual, but productive.
