| If Life Was A Computer... | |

Just something I wrote in a fit of satyrical inspiration, and as a sort of practice for the kind of thing I'll be expected to write in my English exam. Hopefully. xD If Life Was A Computer… Wouldn’t everything be so much easier? We’ve all had those moments where we’ve desperately wanted to go back in time and change something. Say you’ve just completely embarrassed yourself by flashing your undies to the entire class, or maybe you’ve said something to a friend and now they’re not speaking to you. At these times in your life, wouldn’t it be great to be able to just press ‘ctrl + z’ on your own virtual keyboard? That way you could simply undo your actions and try again. Brilliant. Then, of course, there’s the amazing moments that you wish you could live through again; say if you’ve just been on a really expensive bungee jump, or seen a friend plunge down a grass verge. This is where ‘ctrl + c’ would come in handy; you could make as many copies of the moment as you wanted, and use ‘ctrl + v’ to re-live them. Genius. If you ever felt like changing gender, ‘ctrl + i’ would suffice fantastically; you could invert your gender whenever you felt like it, with no need for expensive and stressful operations. Perfect. Do you have any horrible memories that you’d really rather forget? Then the ‘delete’ key would be ideal; you’d simply be able to erase those terrifying thoughts from your brain, and they’d never torture you again. Excellent. Can’t do your homework? Stuck in a situation where you have no idea what on Earth to do or say; for example when the geekiest boy in school asks you on a date, and you can’t think of an excuse? You’d just have to press ‘F1’ for help, and your fears would be solved. Nifty. Sometimes feel like everything’s getting on top of you? If you’ve got too much homework, too many chores to do, friend problems and a massive wedgie, you could put the stress on hold for a bit of time out by hitting ‘ctrl + alt + delete’. Spiffing. And finally, for those among us who just want out and feel like life’s just getting too much: there’d always be the ‘escape’ key for a quick and easy exit to the afterlife. But the fact is, life isn’t a computer. In the real world we can’t just solve all our problems with the click of a mouse; we have to live through them and deal with anything that’s thrown at us. But why? Why can’t everything be as easy as hitting a few keys? Because without overcoming obstacles, we can’t grow as people. Without embarrassment, we can’t learn to deal with humiliation or have funny stories to tell our friends. Without making mistakes, we can’t learn from them to avoid making them in the future, when it’ll matter much more. And without putting ourselves through traumatic experiences, we wouldn’t be able to use them to our advantage later in life as wisdom for ourselves and others. Amazing moments can only be lived through once, so make sure you treasure those memories and aim to have as many as possible to enhance your way of living. As for those terrible ones we’d rather forget: we can’t just erase them from our minds, but we can block them out with happy experiences or use them to teach us to avoid situations in the future. Life is what it is. And actually, it’s pretty groovy.
