Ugly Man Blues
By NedWilson
26 March 2008

My girl she lef me for a ugly man
My girl she up an' lef me for a ugly man
She up and lef me
Lef me and beref me for a ugly man.

I got the ugly man blues
From his face to his shoes
I got the ugly man blues
That's what I got.

She preferred the noodlin' of a ugly man
She preferred the noodlin' of a ugly man
She preferred the noodlin'
Kissing an' canoodlin' of a ugly man

My girl is dancing with a ugly man
My girl is dancing with a ugly man
He held her tight
All through the night
Her eyes were closed

She liked the kissing of a ugly man
She liked the kissing of a ugly man
She liked the kissing
Now it's me that's missing
Instead of that ugly man.

My girl she lef me for a ugly man
My girl she up an' lef me for a ugly man
She up and lef me
Lef me and beref me for a ugly man.

If you lost the last line, it'd be a classic blues lyric. I like it, it's unusual!

I do suppose the strange spelling has something to do with blues? One could sing this, so I guess it works.
No Blues

I'm afraid I disagree with the previous reviewers (all of whom I respect) but being somewhat of a blues enthusiast, this does not capture the spirit of a true blues; that of having resigned one's self to their situation, or the celebration of one's emotion's - very rarely is it self indulgence or self pity. A blues, ironically, should leave you with a smile.

Cheers

I wouldn't know what typical blues does - but I'll et this sounds good sung to an acoustic guitar.

Punchy - dinkle? Been watching to much Russel Brand? :grin

You could end it by saying that:

She up and lef me
Cos her heart’s ugly as that ugly man.

I still like it.
