Poetry
Unbidden
By NedWilson
29 March 2008
Sometimes
The ghost of an old love
Drifts in from somewhere
Unbidden
On a quiet reflective afternoon.

Even the smallest things are there:

The lift of an eyebrow

A pouted lip

A west-country vowel
A crooked finger
And that funny quirk…

I laugh and cry
And act my part
But then I let it go
Back to whence it came
For the ghost that it is.

It's not new in theme , but it is direct and particular

I prefer longer lines as being less choppy , but they are very apt for the second stanza .

I liked this too. I'm glad PJ went first as e gives the words to what I felt about it - direct and particular. Also - pretty universal - possibly.

The first two stanzas flow very easily and smoothly - creating a comfortable cadence - the last seems a little choppy and abrupt. May just be me - may be worth a look.
