Robbers Dog
By maipenrai
30 March 2008
My Mate Pete the Drunk
he had a head like a robbers dog,
big and ugly,
a face only a mother could love
that you could use to
scare the kids,
sure to give them nightmares.

Yet

He was a gentle man,
gentle in nature
gentle in heart,
he would share with
friends or strangers
what little he had.

In his simplicity
in his kindness
he was a beacon for humanity,
but he was ugly, ugly as sin
and in our modern age
where cosmetic beauty
is bought and sold
much like whores
he was oppressed by beauty.

I know how he feels ,that poor Pete :cry
I liked this but maybe the fact he was a drunk prob didn't help with his appearance what with all the broken veins and nose swelling!

Nice write though, like a poem with a subtle message.
Thanks

This links extremely well with what I wrote in the non-fiction side: "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder". We teach our children that ugly people are monsters, but it isn't true at all. Beware the good looking people and the beauties - there could be evil lurking even there. I believe that the Yorkshire ripper was a good looking man. A devil in disguise.

'Oppressed by beauty' very good line.

Some good ideas in this, Bernie.

as a drunk myself; beauty is not in the eye of the tee-totaller.
Thanks

Opressed by beauty

I love that part. Haven't we all felt that way at times? No one cares about talent, or personality, but the package it comes in. Great work.
