A quilt, handmade in blues and white
And patterned into hearts and rings
Integral, regular, interweaved.
Remnants of time-worn Sunday best
Relive as segments of her careful plans
Thrift and remembrance fused by practiced hands
Each stitch, precise and strong
Joins blue to white in heart and ring
Within the calculated scheme
By keen eye and agile mind
Through skilful fingers, diligent hand,
An ordered splendor slowly formed.
For each small stitch, a part
In care and faith
Bonds mother and daughter,
Strong and even through the generations.
Each coupled ring, binds woman and man
Tied firm and strong through choice and vow
Hand-in-hand through joy and woe
And in each heart the pledge of love eternal
Unquestioned, unlimited, unconditional
Forever: secure in family, warmth and home

Dunno how you managed to see such detail and symbolism in a quilt, or the making of a quilt but you pulled it off wonderfully. I liked it, can't really see anywhere to improve on, I liked it just the way I read it. Nice one | Nice stitch-work! Written by fortunato364 (21 comments posted) 4th April 2008 | This is a very well-considered and thoughtful piece of writing and a pleasure to read. The use of the quilt as a motif for family life through generations works very well. You don't really need me to tell you that - you obviously put as much time into the poem as the mothers and daughters spent on the quilt! Well done | It matches up...
