What else to do at 5 a.m. trying to calm my little granddaughter but write a poem about it.

Little Lump of Life
Lying on my Lap

Gently Rocking
Gently Breathing
Slightly Wheezy
Soon be Sleeping

Please don't cry
Please don't wake
Please don't fuss

Grant us Peace.

Smallish Smiling Elf
Sitting by Yourself

Tensely Toying
Softly Squealing
Coyly Cooing
Almost Speaking

Please be well
Please be good
Please be calm

Gift from God.

This is the first poem i've read so far today that I've actually enjoyed. My old creative writing teacher would hate it because he always preferred disturbing or morbid writing but I also have a young daughter so I think it's sweet. If it is enjoyable to read and draws readers then it is good poetry.

Thanks very much for that. Getting a good review is such heady stuff. I didn't really mean to have it repeated like that, so will have to do some editing.
