When I Am Old
By lauthiamkok
07 April 2008
Our lives may just are fictions one day...

One day you will find
Your life is a fiction
When you are old and
Become a grandpa or a grandma
Telling your grandchildren
The stories from your twenties
Which now you have and believe
But will become then and
You will doubt them.

I'm old! So old you wouldn't believe just how very old! So old that I write poems for my grandchildren, which they seem to like. Old - yes, a terrible state of existence I can tell you. Stay young, that's my advice!

PS Where have you got your information from, about old age? Have you done a survey of the oldies? ha ha You have come to the right place. There are so many old folk on GW that you may well get lots of follow up to my comments.

I am not as many other old people. I had my twenties and it just disappeared, and now when i try to think back, it seems just an illusion at any moment now.

So, it's a theory. I dont need to grow until 80 or 90 and to realise this.

I'm not a grandma, but I already feel some of my earlier experiences are fiction that happened to someone else! So I can relate to this. Again you say this in your own distinctive style - ghostly, voice whispering from somewhere....

that is truly fiction! And it's hilarious!

There is another poem for you, Lau. I think this stretches even the most ambitious post-modernist mind.

Actually sometimes I dream in` a dream, and wake up in the dream, and know that it's a dream, and am convinced in the dream that I've been there in real life - but I know I haven't. Then years later, I step into a place in reality, and suddenly I feel I've been there for real - but I know I haven't. That was kinda spooky.

this can only only a very brief stab at what is obviously a very complex state - because everybody's old age will be different. I suspect half of the readers of this site are older than you :) and guess half of them will disagree with the content of your piece!

My grandmother was very forgetful in her 80s and 90s, while my husband's grandmother at the same age was still able to play a sharp game of whist and rattle off the names of all her grand and great-grand children. There are no absolutes.

agree or disagree on something is just another word for like or dislike something. All poetry is subjective everyone should know this when you write something of poetry.

of cos, you like what you see in here, you definitely know it does not mean "able to play a sharp game of whist and rattle off the names of all her grand and great-grand children".

of cos, i dont need to waste time on some 'mind' doesnt like me.

period.

Uh, Lau??? I think you might have misunderstood fellpony (and the general review process.) This often happens when we are new to the site. I've sent you a private message.
