Ignorance

The start of an epic poem, perhaps! Also a character sketch that is part of a collection called "The Disappointed Vampire and Other Stories"
Hope you like!

The recluse clung to the grim shadows of his fortress,

Souped up all day in mopey silence;

He savoured every drop of solitude that he

squeezed out of the thin, meagre air around him.

Wasted, yet mobile he stalked the corridors of his castle-

                        As if proud that he alone ruled all this hollow emptiness.

This is very interesting. After I read it, I thought it was about some rich grumpy person with no friends. I thought it was profoundly expressed. Then I read the intro and realised it is probably about some dysfunctional vampire, and found it very humourous. How amazing how our perceptions change in the light of some vital information or lack of it. I found our understanding of a written piece can profoundly change when we understand to whom it was orignally directed. This poem is very interesting.

ps. why did you name the piece ignorance? (a favourite subject matter to me, one that I'm familiar with)
