The second chapter is the very first dark chapter unlike the first chapter which is very light comedy.
Christian is in the kitchen, she sees a decapitate body on the floor. Her dreams ended when she hears the alarm clock ringing. She open her eyes and sees the bedroom is dark. She turns the alarm off and gradually got herself out of her double bed. She gets change and walks to the curtain, her back pain and swelling ankle made her walk uncomfortable. She opens the curtain and the sunlight made the room brighter. She looked through the window and sees the pavement wet and the wind blowing the trees, summer is over and autumn has arrived. On the walls is number of old newspaper, on one photo it showed people with flower and card facing a grave. She walks to the bathroom next door and looked at the mirror, it reflected her thin weak body. She freshens herself and eventually walks downstairs to a sitting room. It is connected to a kitchen, facing the stairs is a small hallway. She walks to the hallway and sees a red envelope on the doormat. Later that lunchtime Christian wearing grey clothes with a wrapped flower enters a Chinese restaurant called Imperial Dragon. Most of the table are empty and Chinese blues music are being played. Samuel is sitting in the same table, his long coat is behind the chair and a stranger whose back is facing her is sitting in her chair. She walks towards them and Samuel notice her. He stands up and said, “Good afternoon Christian.” Christian replies, “Hello darling.” She looked at the stranger and notice the person is in his 40s wearing a black hood and a white tie, he looked like the Grim reaper. Samuel said, “This is my friend and partner Mike.” He added “Mike this is Christian.” They nodded to each other and Mike said, “I leave you two alone.” He stood up, left his money on the table and left the shop. Samuel and Christian sat down on the chair, hang her handbag on the edge of the chair and put the wrap flower onto her lap. He asked her, “How are you today?” Christian reply, “Same and you?” Samuel answered, “Good thank you.” A waiter cleans the table and Samuel makes the order. Christian looks through the window to an internet shop across the road. It made her depress and the sky started to get darker. Samuel called her name and she looked at him. Samuel added, “Your foods are ready.” Christian sees the food, smiled and replies, “Thank you darling.” Samuel eats his meal and Christian does a prayer before eating a little bit. She looks back at the Internet shop again and paused for a moment. She gave a little tear and the sky started to rain. Samuel interrupts her again, “Christian, I am worried about you.” He signs and added, “Your weight has dropped dramatically after 3 months and you lost your job!” He asked, “Did you go to counselling today?” Christian gave a reassurance smile and answered, “Who needs counselling when I have you.” Samuel gave a soft laugh and said, “I am here for you.” He added, “You know where to find me if you need me.” Christian smiles and replies, “Thank you.” A waiter comes to their table and replaces the teapot. The waiter leaves and Christian asked, “I find this envelope.” She added, “Do you know what is inside?” Samuel answered, “No.” Christian gives the envelope to Samuel and he finds a £50 note inside. Christian said, “I find red envelopes in my house nearly everyday. Caroline has the house key but I know it’s not her.” Christian added, “Would you like to read the only letter I got from it?” Samuel answered, “If you want.” From her handbag she talks out a letter and gives it to him. He reads the printed paper out, “To Christian. This money is completely legitimate and you won’t find out who I am. Please use it wisely, from X.” Samuel said, “Interesting.” He added, “I can find out for you?” Christian answered, “If you can.” Samuel puts the letter into his pocket. A waiter comes to their table and takes the dishes away. Christian asked, “Do you remember the last time Caroline went missing?” Samuel paused and answered, “That was many years ago.” He added, “Was it 8 weeks after her birthday when Caroline returns from her holiday.” Christian added, “Yes. It was a school trip.” Samuel said, “That’s right. You and Caroline had an argument, she ran away but she came back in a week time. I don’t know the whole truth about the argument thou.” Christian sighs and reply, “Well the truth ….” suddenly something was beeping and vibrating in his pocket.
