slap in the face

Imagine this:

there you are, erecting

(sssh)

these high walls,

these massive defence systems which consist of elaborate barricades,

barbed-wire structures, landmine-filled mazes, mile-deep moats and various imposing obstacles

– all of these around

your heart, protecting

your fragility

like some monstrous

cocoon …

and as you

stand back

to admire

your handiwork,

someone

 – possibly the right one –

taps you

on the shoulder

and says ..

“You left the
back door
open”.

Imagine the sheer sumptuousness
of that fantasy,

then
slap yourself in the face

because The Right One came

along some time ago, saw

what he had to go through to get to whatever worth you may have,

and then rode off to find someone less

convoluted.

Odd one this, Alan - at least for me. It works, it communicates, it says what you meant it to- but for such an intimate piece, I feel no emotion there. Perhaps the long then short line distracted me. Not sure. Sorry for a pretty useless review.
