I was searching for ancestors but the magic of the names took over and I collected funny names instead. There were Clacks and Bubbs Nibbs and Dubbs A Dott, a Dash And a Nash Burkes and Squibbs Jones and Stibbs A Wriggle, a Whip and a Worm. Dinwiddies, Bimpsons and Boococks Hancocks, Piggins and Ray A Ribb and a Cork And a youngster born Chalke All on a midsummer's day! There were Sages and Onions Carrots and Pease Firebrass, Sturgeon and Fish Booseys and Trees And a dish of Lampreys Laid down in the Vicar's fine hand There were Pitmen and Pokes Burtleggs and Figgis Twiddles and Twaddles And some people called Noddles Then next to a Cottle - A tiny Hairbottle New in the world that day! There were lots of Wilsons Several Pilsons A flock of Chickens And one or two Dickens Proudfoot, Newman and Toots A brace of Woodcocks And a pair of Boots And a little lad called Pfannkuchen! There were lots of others Sisters and brothers Of which mention should certainly be made They' re all in the register, by God's grace But I've run out of space!
