Liam’s front room, interior, Day light, 1.00pm
[Ryan and Liam are sat on the sofa, playing on the play station.]

Liam: Look mate, don’t you think it’s about time you went home now?

Ryan: [scowl on his face, looks up from the TV screen] What home?

Liam: Come on now, Ryan, there’s no need for that now is there…

Ryan: Isn’t there?

Liam: Your Mum’s trying to do her best…
Ryan: Really [he looks Liam in the face, and Liam is lost for words], the best for who? For Alex, her real son that’s who! [Ryan throws down the controller to the play station and stands up.]

Liam: Calm down, calm down. Look it’s a difficult situation for everyone. Maybe you could just try to get to know Alex? [No response from Ryan] I know its not easy having a brother…

Ryan: [jumps up from the sofa again] He’s not my brother! What part of that is hard to understand!

Outside the corner shop, Exterior, Day light, 2.00

Fiz: Kirk! Kirk!
[Fiz run’s from the corner shop across the cobbles to where Kirk is opening the door to his house. Kirk turns round and acknowledges Fiz.] How are you Kirk?

Kirk: Haven’t you heard? I got the sack yesterday.

Fiz: Oh Kirk! Why’s that?

Kirk: Business is quiet and Ashley couldn’t afford to keep me on. But he said he’d take me back if things got better.

Fiz: Oh well at least that’s something then. What are you going to do in the meantime?

Kirk: I dunno, see you later Fiz
[Kirk’s face drops and he turns to go inside]

Fiz: Hang on a minute Kirk, can I have a word? Why don’t we go and have a kebab, on me.

Kebab Shop, Exterior, Day Light, 2.30

Jerry: Alright Lloyd, the usual?

Lloyd: Yes please Ken, time for my daily round!

Jerry: O.k, won’t be long. Our Darryl’s meant to be here for his shift, I’m stuck here doing everything as usual!

Lloyd: I know the feeling. It’s the same that taxi office, Steve’s like Hayley’s comet or something, you’re lucky when you see him.
[Jerry raises an eyebrow as if to enquire why this is] Personal problems, mate, personal problems.

Jerry: Kids eh, nothing but trouble.

Lloyd: Yeah but the thing is there not even his kids. Come to that I don’t thing their sure who’s kids who’s at the moment.
[Jerry leans over the counter to get more information on this when Darryl comes strolling in with his ipod on, followed by Kirk and Fiz]

Jerry: Oh here he comes. Late as usual.
[Jerry tugs the ipod out of Darryl’s ear and glares at him.]

Darryl: [Complaining voice]You’re over working me Dad, I could hardly wake up this morning.

Jerry: Yeah well with our Mel off in the force, and Jodie gone to London we’ve got to pull together as a family, working a family business.

Darryl: Yeah well neither Mel or Jodie look like they want to give up their new jobs to come back and work here do they? What are you going to do, wait until our Kayleigh’s old enough to serve the fries? Don’t think I’m doing all hours until then Dad, I actually want a life! Why don’t you get someone else to do you’re dirty work for a change?

Lloyd: Oooh, someone’s got his knickers in a twist.

Jerry: Darryl…

Darryl: Look Dad, you know what I’m saying, we need an extra pair of hands or two or three come to that….

Lloyd: He’s got a point you know, not that I don’t like the conversation, but I always have to wait for me kebab!
[Fiz nudges Kirk and gives him a look and Kirk stares dumbly back at her. Fiz sighs]

Fiz: Well, Jerry, if you need an extra worker this is your lucky day. Here’s just the man for the job, standing right here.

Jerry: Kirk?

Kirk: Me?

Lloyd: I thought you were working at the butcher’s with Ashley?

Kirk: I was …

Fiz: Ashley had to let him go as business was quiet, but Kirk can do the job!
 [Fiz nudges Kirk again}

Kirk: Yeah I could do this job I’ve been working with meat for months now. I know how to make a proper scotch egg too.

Jerry: Well I don’t think you’ll be needing to make those here…

Darryl: Come on Dad, you know we need the extra help!

Jerry: O.k then Kirky boy lets see what you can do.
[Kirk beams and Fiz gives a little smile as Kirk moves behind the counter]

Rovers, Interior, Daylight, 3.30

[Michelle is serving Jack at the bar, and Liam walks in]

Michelle: Hiya Liam everything alright?

Liam: Look Michelle we need to have a proper talk about this living situation. Ryan was only meant to be at ours for a few days, you can’t push him out forever.

Michelle: [Hands the pint over to Jack and then Pulls Liam round behind the bar] Liam! I am not pushing him out! I didn’t even want him staying at yours in the first place.

Liam: Look Michelle, come over to ours at teatime, without Alex. This has gone on for long enough, we’ve got to sort it today. It just ain’t fair on the poor kid.
[Michelle looks deflated as Liam leaves the pub]

Factory, interior, daylight, 4.30

[The girls are all sat at their sewing machines]

Kelly: I was wined and dined and everything. You know there’s something that’s got to be said about the older man …

Janice: Oh yeah Kelly, what’s that then?

Kelly: Shut up Janice! I mean about the way your treated by an older man, so much more gentlemanly like.

Sally: So you dumped your date in favour of his Dad?

Kelly: Well, I’ve got the better deal now, at least he’s not immature! Playing games, keeping me waiting and all that…

Sally: I suppose it’s not been unheard of before [Sally shoots a look at Janice who glares back at her] you know going after the father when you’ve already been out with the son.

Janice: Alright Webster, but your not whiter than white are you? We all know where your daughter gets it from.
[Fiz looks uncomfortable at this turn of the conversation]

Sally: That’s enough Janice, with all the tricks your Leanne has got up to your not one to judge…
[Janice makes to move from her chair and Carla comes out of the office]

Carla: Alright ladies enough of the gossip. If you want to go home on time I suggest you knuckle down for the last half hour.  [Carla goes back into the office]

Kelly: Well all I’m saying is I won’t be needing to sell knickers for much longer!
[Sally raises her eyebrow and Janice sighs as if she’s heard it all before]

Rovers, interior, night, 5.30

[In the backroom of the Rovers. Alex is sat at the table and Michelle puts his diner down in front of him]

Michelle: There you go darling, now you sit and enjoy that, I’m just going to pop out for a bit.

Alex: Where are you going?

Michelle: [Takes a deep breath] I’m just going round to our Liam’s…
Alex: To see Ryan? Michelle: Yes, well there’s a few things we’ve got to sort out…

Alex: Can I come?

Michelle: I don’t think that’s a good idea love.

Alex: But if I’m part of this family, like you say I am, then why can’t I be involved in these decisions too?

Michelle: Oh Alex you are a part of this family, Ryan just needs some time to realise that, that’s all.

Alex: I just don’t understand why he hates me so much!

Michelle: He doesn’t hate you, but it is hard for him at the moment and …

Alex: I’d really like to get to know my uncle Liam too you know. Please can I come?

Michelle: No Alex not this time. I need to talk to Ryan …

Alex: You’re just going to get rid of me aren’t you? You’ll just do what he says and I’ll have to go back to Nick and Wendy.

Michelle: You don’t have to go anywhere if you don’t want to Alex, I’ve already told you that, don’t worry kid it will all work out.

Alex: ok then mum, but can I go and see uncle Liam soon?

Michelle: yes love [kisses him goodbye] I’ll see you later.

Cabin, interior, night, 6.00

[Rita is behind the counter and Sally comes into the Cabin]

Rita: Oh, hello love, I haven’t seen you in awhile, how are you?

Sally: Oh I’m fine thanks Rita.

Rita: Good, good, and how are the girls?

Sally: Oh they’re fine too.

Rita: Rosie?

Sally: Yes she’s not causing us too much trouble at the moment. She seems to have settled back into Underworld. Not that me and Kevin are very happy about her working there again, under the influence of that Carla …

Rita: Well as long as she’s keeping herself out of mischief?

Sally: Yes, well I suppose.
[Sally picks up a few magazine’s and comes back to the counter with them] Rita, what do you think of me going back to finish my a levels? I mean I was really enjoying it until all the Rosie business and I’ve seen an evening course that I could go to. Or I could even ask Ken to give me a hand.

Rita: Well, it sounds like you want to pick it up again. But why do you want to do the a levels Sally? What would you do with them?

Sally: Well actually Rita, I haven’t said this to anyone else but I was thinking that I would really like to become a teacher. Maybe do an open university course. Working all day in the factory with those girls and their idle gossip just isn’t me Rita.
[Rita takes the money for the magazines and gives Sally her change]

Rita: No? Well just remember Sally Webster that you don’t want to throw away all you’ve got looking for something more than you’ve already got …

Sally: I know, I know that Rita but I really enjoyed learning all those things, keeping my brain active, and I would love to be able to carry that on.

Rita: Well good luck with it Sally, let me know how you’re getting on.

Sally: I will do, thanks Rita, bye.
 [Sally leaves the cabin]

I haven’t seen Corrie for about 3 years so am out of touch with the characters, consequently I had to rely solely on the dialogue to define personality and agenda and I think that might need a bit of attention in places. The speech patterns are a bit similar. Having said that I thought the interchanges between them sounded realistic and plausible and in keeping with the sort of [soap] responses that have to carry a lot of exposition as well as plot. It follows in the style of soaps and follows the rules they seem to have. I thought the bit where Kirk loses one job but immediately get another still ‘on the street’ was exactly how these things work
The bits that worked best, for me, were when conflict was generated, like the part with the adopted boy. There is always the perennial inability to see the other person’s point of view in soap exchanges and you caught that perfectly. . You seem to understand how soap drama progresses.
One typo
“you’re dirty work for a change?”I

If you’re thinking submitting it, it needs to be completely typo free.
As a practise piece of scripting it is fine but if you are thinking of submitting it you might need to tighten up some of the dialogue to keep the pace going.
You do seem to have a feel for these pieces. I remember your Eastenders script.
Oh, and congratulations on a professional bit of formatting

I have to admit to being a corra fan, mainly because the scriptwriting is so well done. You too are obviously a fan as you have the `voices` pretty much in character. I think a lot of your script has already been covered by the team already, apart from Kirk getting a job in the Kebab shop - plenty of scope there for mayhem! It would be nice if you could develope a story line with some of the characters who haven`t had much of a storyline lately. People line Dev and Emily. How about her meeting a man at her church? And I`ve often thought what a good idea it would be to bring Martin back. I`m sure with your feeling for the characters you could introduce a whole new storyline.

All the best
Roger
