Dedicated to all the bearers of the 'blue light' around the world, who go through life unseen and unrecognised.
We policemen and policewomen of the World unite.
We came together to join the fight.
We stand for everything that is pure and bright.
We are the bearers of the ''blue light.''
We took an oath to protect and serve.
Is that not what society should deserve?
We stand together in the crowd.
To ""Protect and Serve"" we say out loud.
How many of our fearless comrades have died on duty.
So that all divides of society can live without fear?
We faithfully enter the annals of hell.
Just to save ''another pal!''
We bear the scars of service through friendship.
Without taking a beating from a horsewhip.
""SERVO PER AMIKECO""

| I appreciate the sentiments, but have a problem with the politics. You're presenting a terribly rose-tinted picture here, and I'm not sure how many even in the UK police force would recognise it as authentic to their own experience... yes the police force is there for the good of society, and there are many fantastic and selfless individuals doing their best, often without recognition, to make this happen... but then, in parts of the UK, there are shoot-to-kill policies, institutional racism, and collusion with terrorist organisations, all of which have been well documented... hardly "everything that is pure and bright", is it? I think this would be much more effective if it were a little more realistic. |
Police Politics Written by Rattle_Spear (93 comments posted) 15th November 2005 |
Gray areas you have mentioned. Yes, only in Utopia will all the policemen/women be lily white without redress. What about all the politicians? I was involved in a murder trial in Birmingham UK (1996 - 2003), where we put away three accused for life. The Justice System should be seen to be working. |

without the police there would be anarchy, yes some are currupt but most are risking their lives on a daily basis for all of us, so a admire the tribute from RS and think that we should step back and look at all the good that they do because it always outways the bad. Faye |

Will avoid politics Written by idlemusings (80 comments posted) 17th November 2005 |
My views on the police run along the amboline path so I will confine myself to commenting on the poem. I thought the first verse was good but that the flow got lost in the second. I particularly found it hard to get my head around - 'How many of our fearless comrades have died on duty. So that all divides of society can live without fear?' Everything else had rhymed and then this didn't. Anyway my mate has just joined the force and I hope he's going to find it like you portray it rather than me.

All and Sundry Written by Rattle_Spear (93 comments posted) 17th November 2005 |
Maybe I should be glad to see that my poem has drawn so much public debate... Yesterday a police captain was killed by a criminal/terrorist with an AK 47 rifle in a follow-up after an armed robbery at a casino. Today before lunch we had two cash in transit heists in Johannesburg. Maybe your soldiers are safer in IraQ than our policemen/women in Johannesburg? |

Hmm. Here in the UK there's just been the case of a policewoman and mother shot dead whilst responding to an emergency call from a robbery... It does make you think, realise that here are people putting their lives on the line for us, often with very little thanks. Thank you for getting us all thinking |

Once again.....My pleasure. To think that every policeman/woman have members of a family who love them. By the way, my dad was also a COPPER |
