Haiku fun

This is just a bit of fun, I'm sure it's been done before...

If you go to Google's translate page http://www.google.com/translate_t and paste your haiku, then click 'translate english to japanese', wait a second and the translated text will appear (probably as little squares or symbols); copy the translated text and paste it back in the translator, then click 'translate Japanese to English'. Sounds more complicated than it is, plus it only takes a few seconds to do. Here's some I did earlier...

This is very interesting. A worthwhile exercise to see if softwares can do a better job, or throw a different light. Some translation is ridiculous, but some were quite impressive "Goldwater, reflecting". Hmmm... I wonder what Japanese readers would have thought of the Japanese translation...?? What an experiment!

Oh wonderful !

'Soft pink bloomer' I weep that there's no 's'.

Will definitely have a go at this!

Reminds me of the fun I had reading Shakespeare into a poorly 'trained' computer voice recognition system - hilarious results.

The if one tries it with one's own poetry, totally bizarre images come out which can occasionally inspire one off in more fruitful directions. A highly recommended literary sport. Give it a try?
