Thanks for sending your book, which I’ve now read
You wanted feedback? So off the top of my head;

You claim it’s a work of; “both style and flair”
But from where I’m sitting, au contraire!
There were a few flaws that I managed to spot,
It seemed to be lacking what we call a “plot”,
The characters were one-dimensional at best,
Your grammar would fail a schoolroom test,
It started badly, faded, and finished on a low,
It beggars belief that you didn’t already know
It was lacking in wit, style, or grace,
Dramatic tension, structure or pace.

A literary abomination, without redemption,
The most worthless thing I’ve read, without exemption,
You call it a “mystery”, and with this I agree;
Why you bothered to write it, is a mystery to me!
It wasn’t worth reading, let alone writing
It induced a deep depression, which I’m currently fighting.

In summary, your work shows no talent of any kind
And may be the product of an unbalanced mind.
But alas, these days, what I think seldom counts
And I know this rubbish sells in staggering amounts
And while there seems no cliché that you’ve missed
I’m sure it will top the best seller’s list!
Find enclosed an advance and we’ll be in touch
About a multi-book deal, publicity and such
.

Evening

I think recirculating the air on planes is a poor idea

Ooooh - I do like this. Hysterical!

Was this format intentional? If not, it looks like you may have pasted it from a word document. You the lose all the spacing, which happened to me when I started on here.
Sorry!

Sorry for the above patronising advice - I've just checked your profile and see you've been on GW since August last year, so all was intentional.

Cheers! John

a publisher's response like that. Great stuff.

Very enjoyable. I once heard of a man who typed up a novel that won a Pulitzer prize some decades ago. He just changed the title and author's name, and sent the ms to 50 publishers. Every one of them rejected it, including the one who originally published it! But I'm shallow. I enjoy reading bestsellers.
