Corporate Culture in verse (part 4): Delegation
By Sinnerman_Pfank

My job is easy, isn’t it?
All I basically do is sit?
But it’s not easy, when you suddenly realise
That talking and sitting are all that your skills set comprise.

I could do this job enthrallingly
Not as people think, appallingly
But it’s not easy when you’ve been idle so long
You can’t tell the things you do right, from the things you do wrong.

I’m reviewing my occupation
I’m a manager, but is there a better way?
Why is it always, delegation
I’m sure there’s a leadership role I can play;
Perhaps ask colleagues what to do
Listen to my team’s point of view
Introduce thinking that’s fresh and new
Inspire and lead them safely through……
But what if things should go awry?
And my bosses then begin to pry?
I’ll be the one who they’ll blame
Failure will be linked with my name
And then if I’m in disgrace
I’ve no chance of a larger office space…
I think I’d better delegate again.

But, I could do this job iconically
Not as people think, moronically
But it’s not easy to change when in such a comfortable zone
When the only needs to have to worry about are your own.

But I’m reviewing, my occupation
I’m a manager and I’m changing from today!
It doesn’t always have to be delegation
I’ll stand up, be counted, no matter, come what may
I’ll champion change, take principled stands
Enact revolutionary and far reaching plans
Put others first, do the lion’s share
To show others that I really care…….
But I’m really about “I” not “we”
Selfishness suits me to a tee
Personal sacrifice just isn’t me
The very thought makes me want to flee
Yes, self-awareness, that’s the key!
I’m exactly how I want to be
I think I’d better delegate again.

I could so this job, heroically
Or at the very least, stoically
But despite successfully maintaining an uneasy truce
I can’t hide the truth from my team that I’m not any use

I’m reviewing my occupation
I’m a manager of rare and specials skills
It’s good for others, this delegation
And assists me in my plan to break their wills.
Why not continue in my present style?
Menace with a serpent’s smile
What was I thinking? Make a stance?
I’ll bide my time and wait my chance
On the career of others I will dance
Trampled without a backward glance
To achieve my goals, come what may
Those who are currently in my way
No matter what I publicly say
Will all, in time, be made to pay.
I think I’d better delegate again.

I could do this job charmingly
Not as people think, alarmingly
But it’s not easy when you feel that life is passing you by
All your dreams just out of reach, no matter how hard you try

There’s been sacrifices, there were bound to be
Always by others (I made sure it was never me)
But the means were always justified by the ends
And so what if I no longer have what other people call “friends”

No more reviewing my occupation
I’m a manger and a manger I’ll stay
The best option’s always delegation
There’s no task that can’t be jettisoned that way
I’m a member of the chosen few
I simply have no time to rue
The fact I haven’t got a clue
I simply have too much to do:
Avoiding finding out what’s true
Personal agendas to pursue
Other’s people’s careers to screw
While my stock options continue to accrue
(I’m simply getting what I’m due)
So I’ll stick where I am like glue

I think I’d better delegate again.

Evening

I have returned from my travels

Optionally sung to the tune of; "Reviewing the Situation" from the musical "Oliver!"
