Un autre poeme trouve
By Veronica_Milvus
28 April 2008
Katange posted a "found poem" the other day.

Here's one that I read in the LiveJournal blog of an Orthodox Priest in America.  He blogs under the name seraphimsigrist and something he wrote just looked like poetry to me.  I guess it is about poets who feel things so deeply that they start to make them up...

and I am in awe of people from other cultures who know literature that seems impossibly exotic to me.  I think that is the aura about it.

AN INVENTED HAPPINESS

the great poet Marina Tsvetaeva was like that and indeed
invented an infatuation with her by Rilke which did
not in the factual world exist
(though they corresponded)
but her life was so tragic that one can hardly regret
even an invented happiness

Hi Veronica! Thank you so much for picking up this theme!

I think there's mileage in it yet.

I think I know what you mean about the 'awe' that you feel.

Some people are so wise, and know so much, that they don't need to write a poem to make their point - they just write. . .

For what it's worth, I'm just about to post the reverse side of the 'found poem' - it's not a poem, as such, at all. But pretty gut-wrenching.

Maybe it has no place here?

Hey, Veronica! Keep them comimg! John X

LA poeme est FEMININE. Sorry to be picky but there was another one that got away (Katanga?) and that was incorrectly masculine as well. This trend must be NIPPED IN THE BUD immediately.

Nice words, BTW :)

Ah!

I must have been incorrectly advised by a colleague that 'poeme', although it ends in a feminine 'e', is an irregular masculine noun.

I shall have his guts for garters!

Fellpony, are you implying that with my name, Katanga, I am 'incorrectly masculine'?

Cheek! Ha! Ha!

If so, and I think so, what a wonderful thought!

I am happily weak heterosexual man, but have always found in myself a strong feminine side that makes a mockery of gender stereotypes.

And I'm not even bye bye the way

Cheers! John X

Almost everything in French that doesn't rhyme with Amour ends in an E, so it can be difficile to savoir what is actuellement male or female.

Unfortunately for you lot, I happen to be 1/16th French and have a lot of French correspondents who don't write English (I also have a lot of English correspondents who don't write English, but not on this site). I do check in the Eng-Fr dictionary before I challenge, but my gut reaction isn't often wrong.

Katanga, my petalous one, I would never dare to disparage anyone's sexuality as incorrectly anything, I get into enough trouble just writing about poetry :)

Apologies to Veronica for hijacking your review space :grin :grin :grin

Sad? Or maybe just striving for perfection? Did not Pygmalion love a statue? Did not Gwydion create Lleu a wife out of flowers/
Who would want a mortal woman of flesh and blood if he can have Galataea or Blodeuwedd? And the same probably applies to women.

It's a bit strange to post 'found' poems I think. It's nice you want to share them with us (I found a few I would like to let you guys and girls read too), but I hope it's not going to be a trend. Apart from possible copyright issues, I think it'd may be more suitable as a forum thread.

The online dictionaries I have just checked say it is a "nm".

Of course I have missed out the accents on both poeme and trouve. Which if it really were feminine, might be trouvee, I guess.
Une Poesie?

Ha! Ha! Ha!

Thank you, fellpony and Fledermaus . . .

Maybe I was wrong to start this 'found poem' thing off, particularly so pretentiously and getting it so wrong.

I am more determined than ever to have my colleague's proverbials for his proverbials!

Fellpony - I shall look up 'petalous' - sounds like a combination of 'petulent' and 'jealous'?

Sums me up sometimes!

Also hints of 'petal - less' and its opposite i.e. full of petals . . .

Whatever, a great neologism.

Fledermaus - I think you're right. This is probably not the plave for these things (copyright etc).

I'll get back to writing instead!

Cheers! John

Noun Masculine?
Written by Katanga (1218 comments posted) 29th April 2008
Gosh - curiouser and curiouser!

Does NM mean 'Noun Masculine'?

If so, you, Veronica, and I will be vindicated, and fellpony will have to eat humble pie . . . Ha!

Any French naturals on this site who can help us out? Ho!

I'm quite happy to feel silly over this, and it goes to show the vakue (Ha!) of double-checking before pressing 'Submit'.

Mind you, look what happened with Alice! I weep!

Cheers! John

My Oxford English/French Dicko says "NF" under "poeme" - oops, now I see it's actually "poesie NF" and against "poeme" it's got "NM". Can I have one of Nigel's starlings in my pie please.
I weep!

I weep again!

So jolly was I to find this resolve that I pressed 'Submit' again - whoops!

Veronica, we can hold our heads high!

Fellpony - I think Nigel's pretty attached to his starlings now, so gather the ingredients for your pie by stealth and by night.

By the way, your garden sounds delightfully like mine - I haven't cut the grass for 18 months, so the insects, birds etc are frollicking in wonderfully gay abandon (well, I've yet to check out who's doing what to whom out there, but I don't care).
