Written with my oldest son in mind who as just dropped out of university at the age of twenty three and Is threatening to return home. PROBLEMS

"

O son of mine"
What Is it I done to you
Smothered you with mother love
 held the hands of time
Seas were always carm
I fear its brought you harm
No thunder's roar did you hear
No demons knocked at your door

You stand cloaked in finery
 Son it's Gods irony
 You who had the best
education and the rest
Should on us so depend
"Sorry son it's at a end"

My heart aches
These words ties break
Walk away, close the gate
Go before it's to late

 Childhood has ended
Adventure has just begun
walk away son go and be a

 MAN

You have certainly expressed yourself powerfully and sympathetically here. It is probably me, but I have a big problem with poems that use archaic words like thee and thou, It gives it a melodramatic declamatory feel that undermines what you are saying. Perhaps I'm being unfair here and you use these words generally. If so please ignore my comment

This would sound scary to your son, I think. It sounds scary to me, who has a little boy, whom I fear I am spoiling. My child's clinginess worries me. So I related to what you are saying, particularly your lament about the part you played in his 'indulged' upbringing and the irony. I liked the firm 'NO' being resounded in this piece, and the admonishing to go be a MAN! I loved it. If all mothers can just do this in real life, we will be successful mothers!

With you all the way, V. I solved this problem by charging rent. Mean, aren't I? But they have to live in the real world. My son is now 29 and just beginning to behave like an adult.
