IN THE MORNING
By Robru
06 May 2008
Imagination is a wonderful thing, it can turn the mundane into the magical.

In the morning in the lowlands
While the mist is still around
            Tread softly where you're walking
Wee folk live on the ground.

In the morning in the forest
With the fog among the trees
            Watch closely near the pathways
            The spirits are all free.

In the morning near the river
            Look closely left and right
You may almost catch a glimpse
            Of a lovely water sprite.

In the morning with the sunrise
            All the little people flee
So when we humans do appear
            There's nothing there to see.

In the morning in the sunshine
You need only have a care
            You do not  awaken
            The Wee folk sleeping there..

Mellow!
Written by Katanga (727 comments posted) 6th May 2008
There's something mellow about this - reminds me of Donovan's 'Yellow'.

I really like the repetition of 'In the morning' and the mystique that surrounds it.

I think you could make more of this - who are the 'little people', the 'wee folk'?

Are they for adults, children, or both?

What defines them, gives them life?

Definitely worth pursuing IMHO.

Cheers!

John

Long time no see, robu! What a beautiful poem. I feel I've been transported into a world where anything magical can happen. I imagine the little people in the fairy tales sleeping between the leaves, in the seaweed etc after their play time. Maybe this can turn into a children's story poem. Yes, imagination is a powerful thing, and a beautiful thing. Lovely.

Thank you both for your comments. The little people are for everyone's imagination. Age or gender make no difference for imagination is universal. We all ahve it but the business of living dictates that we do not use it enough.
