For Children
A Minibeast Slug 2
By Katanga
11 May 2008

Well, this is a more 'considered' piece about our friend the slug!

But less-than-fully researched!

Hope it works better for children than the last one?

Comments?

Yes, please!

I mean, do slugs attack Hollihocks? Hmmmm! Dunno!

Easy to changa if you tell me . . .

Cheers!

John X

The Slowly Slug

If you have learnt about the Slug
I'm sure that you will know
He has no shoes nor even feet
And not a single toe!

He hates the sun, and so at night
You'll find him on the ground
Gobbling up your precious plants
And slithering around!

He's slimy, so don't touch our Slug,
Sticky beyond compare!
Just stare at him with due respect
He doesn't know you're there!

He's blind, you see, and cannot hear
So you can dance and sing
For all you're worth, but it's a fact
He just won't hear a thing!

A beer-trap in your garden bed
Will make him go away
From your best plants, like Hollihocks,
We don't want him to stay!

I liked both of these poems John, but of the two I think I would choose the second one (this one). You are really getting a good rhythm into your children's poetry and this is what they love. I can see them coming up to you in the street and saying "We loved your slug 2 poem John, but you haven't written about bluebottles, and I LOVE bluebottles. This is typical I'm afraid. ha ha I've had some of it see. (it was donkeys). Next time you see a boy with his mum ask him if he likes poems about monsters. You will light a spark then.

I thought I had commented on the other one, but saw I didn't. Anyhow, I like them. This one slightly better than the other perhaps... Though not sure why.
Bluebottles!?

Ha! Ha! I keep pressing the wrong button . . .

Thanks Josie and Fledermaaus!

Fleder - Yes, I absolutely prefer this one, if it's aimed at real children - the previous one was very pretentious and aimed more at adults. A trivial pursuit?!

Thanks so much for looking and reviewing, Fleder!

Josie! Bluebottles?

You really got me! You really got me! You got me so I don't know where I'm going!

The Kinks! Tra la!

Never mind! Ha! Ha!

Cheers!

What a fool! Me not you. I told Josie I hadn't seen the other "Slug" poems, and there it was - on the same page,

I like it too, but I really think I must have missed the first one.

Not getting up early enough in the morning, that's my problem

Regards

I like this one, too. I'm getting a vision of stepping on one of those creatures. :x Just out of curiosity, if he has no eyes or ears (I guess that's why he can't see or hear?), does he have sense of smell? Got a nose? This shows how helpful these children's poems are. Makes us question things we never thought about. Lovely, John.
