An Early Summers Evening...
By Steve_K
11 May 2008

My hands trembled

As I partook to smoke

The exhaled breath hung about

Like a bird of prey

Contemplating, Dismissing

The Summer evening

Lolled about

Deciding against ending

It was 7:14

A young woman spied me

From a bus

I gathered, She gathered

My nervous thoughts

I smoked another cigarette

Straight away

Diving deeper inside my head

Looking for treasured

Witty comments

For a greeting

It was 7:16

A minute late

Had she come at all?

My phone gave no clues

The Sun still warm

I stepped into shade

And began to hum

Dum, dum, dee, dee

An old man approached

And looked for the time

It was 7:17

The old man, my mind

It was then that I caught a glimpse

I saw her ‘Fidel Castro’ type hat

Bob above the crowd

Like a bottle in the ocean

Moving from side to side and up

I began to walk towards her

She saw me, She smiled

I could not hide my joy

A large grin

Relief

We closed in

Stopped

Our faces

An arm’s length away

A short arm’s length

And then I moved in

Our tongues met

A flame above our heads

Australianly, she spoke

“Fancy a beea?’

We sank back into the crowd

And strolled on

That went easily... A bit of a daydream I suppose? "Australianly"; Nice invention.
