A Minibeast Blue Bottle
By Katanga
12 May 2008

A bit more fun I hope!

The Latin name, Calliphora Vomitoria, translates as 'clever at provoking vomiting', I think! Rather sweet, wouldn't you agree?

A Full Throttle Guy

The Blue Bottle Fly
Is a full throttle guy
Who buzzes round your house,
Much bigger than our friend the Flea
And even Larry Louse.

His wife lays her eggs
On smelly rotting meat.
"YUCK!" I can hear you say.
Her tummy is metallic blue -
Her head and neck are grey.

The Blue Bottle Fly
Eats Muddle-Puddle Pie
Well, anything in fact
As long as it's stinky and rotten
And creepy crawly packed.

Now you try and say
His complete Latin name.
'Calliphora Vomitoria'.
Not easy to pronounce, I know -
He sounds like Queen Victoria.

Oh, the Blue Bottle Fly
He's a full throttle guy
Filthier than our Louse
Buzz buzz! Buzz buzz! Buzz buzz! Buzz buzz!
Let's drive him out the house!

This is soooooo funny that I've nearly choked on my cup of tea. ha ha. Really! Sounds like Queen Vicoria? (sounds a bit like vomit actually). You'll never guess what the next mini beast is that's FLYING stealthily in. (The rest of GW members must think we are mad). I might post it on the main adult section first. Anyway, yours is brilliant too. Well done! Complimenti

Really funny and enjoyable adn informative. Now I know what that shiny bluish greenish flies are called. They really are disgusting. Just out of interest, would publishers publish this sort of poem? I mean Queen Victoria and all...
Mia :grin

. . .on your last point, that is. Josie might know? Needs more work anyway - the first two lines of the second stanza don't scan well at all . . . Hmmm!

Anyway, many thanks for this review - you really keep my spirits up!

Cheers!
