A Minibeast Mealy Bug
By Katanga
13 May 2008

Another for the collection!

Yum Yum!

Cheers!

John

Lovely Grub!

The Mealy Bug's a lovely grub
Which makes her seem quite edible
But the damage she does to Mango trees
Is really quite incredible!

She sucks the sap from tender parts
And secretes a sweet honey dew
Which sounds deliciously nice to eat -
I wouldn't if I were you!

In April / May she climbs right down
To lay her clutch of eggs
Then her little pink nymphs climb up again
On their tiny nymphy legs!

Next time you eat a Mango fruit
Be sure to look inside -
It's just the sort of place, you know
A Mealy Bug likes to hide!

Haha. Nice rhyme. Especially 'edible' and 'incredible'. You almost make them sound cute.

Gosh John - I am really very impressed as your mini-beast poems are absolutely delightful. I would think a publisher would love these. Y ou have a lovely rhythm to your writing and the rhyming is superb, and I do know how difficult it is to do this plus add the facts. You'll have a publisher after you in next to no time I think. You won't forget to mention mine to him? ha ha We are becoming an "incredible team". ha ha.

I love your little Mealie Bug
But only in the rhyme
I'm pleased I don't eat Mangoes
I'd be worried all the time

Goodness! You are a walking encyclopaedia on mini-beasts John! Do you think you should be teaching another subject? ha ha. You are getting better with each poem, and this is interesting. You could accompany this with interesting facts etc - even games. I like Ann's little verse. Do you know - I don't think it would take much for her to join us - but are there any mini-beasts left? Please don't choose my next victim!

Thanks Fled, Josie and especially Ann.

Ann - I agree with Josie, your verse as a review is truly delightful!

Why not have a go at a full Minibeastly poem yourself?

The more the merrier!

Cheers!
