The Seagull on the Roof. (Song lyric)
By Livinginanattic
16 May 2008
I've been reworking this piece which I originally wrote about 10 years ago.

Stranded in a cliff-top bungalow,
Waves are thundering on the rocks below.
I hear the sound,
There’s no-one else around,

There’s a seagull...
On the roof,
Standing regal,
And aloof.

I sit and watch the waves and wonder why...
I watch the supertankers gliding by,
While in the bay
The jet-ski riders play,

And there’s a seagull...
On the roof,
Standing regal,
And aloof.

The seabird flaps his wings and flies away,
Down the hill he glides across the bay,
And in the town,
Someone hears a sound,

There’s a seagull...
On the roof,
Standing regal,
And aloof.

Hard to tell how this would work as a lyric without the melody - but it does have a certain something about it. I like it as a set of words. Not exactly poetry - I think it will need the music to bring it alive. Is there a link to anywhere on the net with an MP3?

Thanks for your comments Phil. I did write this for an accoustic guitar piece I'd composed, but when I tried singing along to it the lyrics and music didn't seem to go together at all. Might have another go at it some time.

Cheers,
Ben
