I have touched a piece of Heaven, plunged the depths of Hell
I have seen the march of progress, felt ravages of time
I've tossed my coins for wishes and lay drunk at fortunes well
I have lived a life erratic with no rhythm or no rhyme.

Now it's far too late to speculate if fate shall lead me to the gate
Where Peter waits to cogitate if I shall burn in Satan's grate.

I loved this!

'I've tossed my coins for wishes and lay drunk at fortune's well.'

That's my kind of poetry, boyo!

'I have lived a life erratic with no rhythm or no rhyme.'

Also like the internal rhymes in the finishing couplet.
Great stuff.

Cheers

Thank you, Veronica.

I also lay drunk at the Golden Lion, but it doesn't rhyme!

Cheers,
Eric.

What a profound piece of maudlin' ! No matter what kind of life we've lived, this is something most of us can relate to, at least in part.
