This didn't work on the adult site - never mind!
Might work here?
Clue - look at the first letter of every word.
Cheers!

Where do Animals Hide?
Perhaps over every meadow
Sings a bird, once under trees?
My instinct now insists
Beneath each ancient stone
There is empty silence

Written by Josie (2785 comments posted) 27th May 2008 | | I have to tell you John that without the clue, I would not have quite understood that this referred to mini-beasts. Sorry. Then I had to think: Why would meadow birds have once sang underneath trees. I am not the brightest person (true) but struggled to understand some things. I thought perhaps you were referring to animals and birds which have now become extinct? Am I right? Now I see that your favourite subject is hidden in this piece. aha! Got it at last. Mini-beasts. Children would find this difficult. Sorry to say this. | Don't be Sorry! Written by Katanga (1229 comments posted) 27th May 2008 | Thanks for this, Josie. Your 'extinct animals' idea works nicely, but I didn't really intend it - I was trying to force the whole thing to make an 'acrostic' silliness. Written more for you than for children . . . Glad you got it! My only thought is that children might laugh when they realise that an obscure piece of adult-sounding pretension is just a trick. Might encourage them to play games with words . . . After all, isn't that what poetry boils down to in the end? Ha! Ha! John X |
