No idea how the GW server works and how much space is available. How about a repository for things like MP3 files and jpegs with links to the appropriate works? We've often bemoaned the fact there's nowhere to store sung lyrics etc.
Just an idea - probably daft.

filling the void Written by woody44 (775 comments posted) 4th June 2008 | Hi Phil. Not been down this end for quite a while but I agree something need to fill the vacuum, and your idea sounds pretty good. `Members` successes` could be another use, but maybe the forums could cater for that. Anyone else any brilliant ideas? Roger | Written by fellpony (1616 comments posted) 9th June 2008 | | What about trying just a rag-bag, or miscellany, where anything that doesn't fit the other categories can be posted? Lyrics, teen fiction, whatever. Links to MP3s hosted elsewhere would be okay but I can't tell you if our server would accept them posted directly here. | Written by Phil (6730 comments posted) 9th June 2008 | As good an idea as any - but I've not seen many pieces that wouldn't fit anywhere else. For those who would like to avoid sites like - well, I'm not sure really - posting MP3s and JPegs here would be useful. I've had a look at other places for photographs - and they tend to be a little tacky. How about a link to a GW blog then? We can probably get one of those for free. - Can MP3s and such be stored on those? Don't know why I'm fussing really - I have no intention of posting any music! Woody's idea of sharing success might be nice - but a forum thread could cater for that I suppose. Someone mentioned a reading room a while ago. Someone could take the lead on suggesting a text and running discussions for a month. Probably a lot of work for whoever did it. - I'm NOT volunteering. Once or twice there have been group writing efforts. I guess The Village was one such - but something more short term may work better - again started by someone and run for a month. How about a members challenge or monthly competition? Easy to run after the first one. The winner starts and judges the next. Or we could have one of those poll thingies attached and turned on for a few days at the end. Just rambling now as I'm avoiding writing reports. Back to Year 6 Science. Phil
| Hi PHil Written by jean.day (2283 comments posted) 10th June 2008 | I like the idea of competitions and having them change each month. We had lots of those when I first started on the site - and they were well supported. Things like giving four or five key words that had to be used within your poem or story - but not to go beyond a certain number of words. I think 100 words was one limit, it was amazing how much could be packed into those few words. I like the idea of an on line poll to judge it too - where you can't vote for yourself - and only those who have contributed can vote. We have had that in the past too. I'm prepared to do it at some stage, but probably not just yet - as we have a new grandchild coming this month and I won't be able to promise to be near a computer for much time for awhile after that. | Written by Fledermaus (3306 comments posted) 24th July 2008 | | Oh... I was hoping the title meant that there was space for sale on the village... Houses, farmland, offices, whatever. Couldn't some creative mind with too much time at hand just bulldoze the whole place and start all over again? i know such projects usually don't last too long (Get Writing had its Shakespaere Street, which had a similar end), but they are such fun! |
