Boozy Anniversary
By Katanga
30 May 2008

An antidote to the two recent brilliant celebrations of exotic alcoholic conconcoctions, this is 'from her to me' for once, instead of 'me to her'.

And I've dispensed with centreing and initial capital letters . . .

Just a joke, you understand? Ho!

Ha!

Cheers!

John X (Now, where is that wretched thing?)

Boozy Anniversary

The ‘poems’ that you leave for me
roses and all that stuff
I’d trade for a bit of sanity –
they’re not enough

The cigarette in your coffee cup
the floater in the loo
are two of my top twenty five
favourite things about you

The wine stains on our carpet
the remains of sick in the sink
are two of your most endearing traits
I often think

Babe I’m gonna leave you, leave you
among your putrid verses
leave you to your ‘poetry’
and bittersweet curses

Just love the middle two verses. About my level. I'm sure you're far more refined than to leave he contents of your stomach in the sink. Floaters and fag ends in coffee cups I already had you down for!

Got me thinking - perhaps.

Enjoyed - you dirty boy.

Reputation Phil?

Ah, Phil! I see 'my reputation runs ahead of me' - now, who on earth said that or similar?!

Thank you for appreciating this bit of, frankly, puerile naughty 'dirtiness'!

Did you spot the nod to Joan Baez (?) in:

Babe I'm gonna leave you
Babe I'm gonna leave you
Leave you when our Summer
Comes a-rollin'

Or somesuch similar gut-wrenching lines?

As ever,

Actually no. Not up on all those sixties/seventies singers - though I do like them. There's a haunting tune from that period (I think) I've been trying to track down - but to avail. The only clue I can give - if you're into this sort of thing - is that it's a female vocalist and was used in the Simpsons for the episode when Homer trips on super strength chillies. Far out.

BTW: previous comment on mine - no need to apologise at all.

Cheers Phil!

That's gonna be a tough one to find . . .

Any offers on Phil's query?

Ha!

Bingo!

Janis Ian - At Seventeen. Worth a listen.

There's a You Tube link here: Janis Ian at Seventeen

At Seventeen? Phwaaaaaarhg!

Goodness - one of my all time classics. Serious.

I have a decaying tape of Janis' Ian's very first album, recorded when she was literally about that age.

An absolute stunner, and that's without a hint of 'perviness'.

We must compare notes anon.

Cheers muchly for this!

"Seventeen" is the most miserable piece of adolescent angst I ever heard. The girl should re-do her lippy, get her high heels on and go clubbing, for goodness sake.

And Tolstoy - yuk to the two middle stanzas. As a love poem, i feel it lacks a certain something!

Good work with the layout though!

I must admit I'm a bit non-plussed by this but you certainly have your own style which, in my experience, is quite a rare thing
