I'm proud, and I'm British, through and through
But I'm not proud of all of the things we do.
*
Just another coffin draped with a national flag
Just another name; Dick, John, Mick, Frederick
Just another young boy dying on a front line.
Just some small print on page 5 of a national rag
Just another number who’s now just another statistic
Just the tears of the wife and kids he leaves behind.
The why, what, where and when, really doesn’t matter
It’s just another phoney war
Just another last post
Just another!
Just?

War Written by meadowcroft1964 (100 comments posted) 3rd June 2008 | Some say a holy war is a just war. I say no way kill and to god you'll pay I love poems that serve a purpose and get you thinking | Written by Turquoise-Tangerine (95 comments posted) 4th June 2008 | Cheers, mate. As far as I'm concerned, the whole world needs to do more thinking and less killing. Turk. | Here! Here! Written by Katanga (1163 comments posted) 4th June 2008 | I'll second your comment above TT! Hope it's not your 'last post'?! Ha! Cheers! John X | Written by shirley_keeldar (67 comments posted) 4th June 2008 | Not just at all! I'm reminded of a guns n roses song about the civil war where one of the lyrics is "whats so civil bout war anyway?". Liked the intro; poignant and a bit shame-inducing. L | Written by Turquoise-Tangerine (95 comments posted) 4th June 2008 | Thanks, John. And no, mate, not my last post. I think I'll hang about for a while. Thanks again, Shirley. Don't know Guns n Roses, but I do know - War, huh, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing. Turk. |
