Apologies for a gloomy one - I just had to do something with the first two lines of that hymn that's bugged me since childhood!

Just hope that tomorrow I don't 'fly forgotten as a dream dies at the opening day'?

Gosh and Oooooer!

Uplift at the end I hope?

Night All!

Cheers!

John X

Time

Time, like an ever rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away

Poetry, in my strolling dream,
Says, “John, I beg you, stay!”

“Should I stay or should I go?”
The worn-out song still asks

Bring on the wine and dancing girls
And the mellow oak-aged casks

For now I’ll stay with you a while
Till all our songs are done

Talk with you of life ill-spent
Of what’s left – still unspun

When our cup has full run dry
I'll take my leave of you

Leaving few regrets behind me
Few, so very few.

You know what the obvious question is, don't you? What regrets?

A little gloomy perhaps - but not wrist slitting!

I really liked 'unspun.' Never thought of it like that before. I think there's a whole poem just around that - somewhere.

Sharp as a razor, as ever, Phil! And I don't mean that mockingly . . .

Yes, on reflection (I dashed it off, as usual, after a Pinot Noir or two), it begs the question.

I would like to expand it, grinding through the 'very few regrets' ending with a final twisting irony, that they're not regrets at all - more like celebrations.

Much good food for thought and productivity.

Thank you so much Phil!

Cheers!

I think this is a nice piece of work. Don't add to it or change it. As it is there is plenty of room for the reader's imagination to work. Let the reader's imagination have free rein.
