Man Rants - Goes Insane

Basically I'm just ranting and I even managed to do it without swearing.

We use to be free, I can't remember when, but I can remember the feeling.  Warm summer days, just you and your friends.  Nothing to fear, nothing to worry about.

No politics or war, the only lies told were the little white ones that never mattered.  No thoughts on your countries foreign pursuits, or dead civilians in places you'll never visit.

Time spent living and enjoying not surviving and decaying.  Looking around and seeing wonder everywhere, now it's just this feeling of dread.

Does everyone see what I see?

What happened to the past where everything was going to be all right?  The future seems so desolate and cold or are we being sold on great propaganda?

When you were young, authority was absolute.  When did questions and rebellion kick in, why do we live in a world where we automatically assume any authority is lying to us.

I just want to be safe and happy.

Why is it that I now assume that my government knows about everything I do, everything that everyone does, this is not supposed to be some Orwellian nightmare.  I just keeping hoping to wake up.

Is it me that needs help or the rest of the world?

Why is it that freedom isn't free when it should be?  It's always another war for the dead to fight.

I think the next “conflict” should be fought by the politicians who declare it.  Our soldiers should be there to protect us, not kill in our name.

I don't want war, and I don't want someone to die for a cause that I don't agree with.

We all know that war is nothing but a means for making money and keeping power.  Governments care nothing for their citizens, all they want is a profit.  Dead men don't cost a thing.

The only price we pay are with the lives of our young men and women who thought they were doing the right thing.

When will we learn that politicians are at best void of morality and at worst just plain evil.

Maybe if we just try to remember when we were free and the rest -  well can we just let it be......?

I can't remember who said it ;
"If we sarcrifice freedom for security we will deserve and get neither".
Actually I'm not sure things were so much better; were we ever free? We are the most watched nation in the free world now but we have far more economic freedom than my parents did. All their time and energy was spent generating money to survive. I suppose it depends how you define freedom.
As for wars; polititians will behave as badly as we allow them to. This is an elected dictatorship not a democracy. We get the freedom we deserve
A thought provoking piece

I'm not sure we ever used to be free. The cold war was a scary time, WWII, the Spanish Inquisition, the black Death... life has always been scary.

I guess the internet just lets us know more immediately what is, or might be, happening.

There's still a lot of good in the world.

I think the time you remember is when you lived under your folk's roof. Now you have to deal with the real world.

Ever since I was a small child, there were problems of one sort or another. Poverty, depression years where food was rationed, war after war.

There is good in the world, but you have to read about it. If you chose to read or watch the bad, you will only see the bad. So change your vision, and look for the little things in life. They are what make you feel good, and they don't cost anything. If you dwell on the bad, that is what you will see.

Think on good things,,,,

Don't watch the news late at night....

Hang out with people who have a good perception about life in general....

Keep writing and laugh. It's medicine for the heart,
Freedome has always been an illusion

Rather deep stuff, but I have to disagree on 'when we were free', looking back on the world wars, the Gulf etc, the world has always been the same - it just seems a bit more obvious these days with the threat of terror and the like (but let us not forget the IRA etc had a similar power to inflict fear).

So in my opinion, the world is free as far as our simple lives are concerned, our everyday happenings, but if we allow the media and the politicians to make us feel this way, then that is how our freedom is lost.

Thanks for the comments folks.

It's good to see other peoples view of the current state of things.

Of course I was just ranting so I don't permanently go around worrying about our freedom in the world - I've always assumed we were screwed, so everyday that we aren't is a bonus!!!
