The Summer Sun
By awakenedmind

Thinking about times gone past

The sun today warms me through

As I lay here thinking of you

The grass smells sweet in the heat of day

Reminds me of the games we played

To run about in the summer sun

With all the mums just looking on

The dads they want play

But decide to leave it another day

The water is cold and the sky is blue

The lotion comes out and covers you

The hats go on and sunglasses too

As dad comes back with his brew

An ice cream cornet I would like

And ask for one with great delight

The money is given and off I go

A 99 with a flake you know

That’s in the past when it happened to me

And now I lay here right next to thee

The deciding to wait for tomorrow

Is finally me I wail in sorrow

So with you I now retire

As we watch the children never tire

Will they think the same I

Whilst swimming through that rubber tyre.

They will sit back in the summer sun

And reflect on those days in the sun

Memories of parents now long gone

And how they laid in the summer sun
