The Last Soul
By DaleGorder
16 June 2008
And if the second coming was a dirty homeless child. Would you notice?

The last soul was given, to a child with no name.

Born in an alley, to a life full of pain.

No one noticed, and no one knew-

If this soul perished, the earth was through.

Fed from dumpsters, sleeping in rain,

He held it all, with nothing to gain.

He held out his hand, but you passed by.

An offer of help, and you wondered why.

Dirty and homeless, what could he do?

Just save the world, starting with you.

Instead he died, completely unheard.

The world went dark, never hearing the word.

This is a very thoughtful poem. I really loved your use of a soul and the first line was very touching:

The last soul was given, to a child with no name.

Its very emotive and the rhyming aids this beautifully. I loved the 'if this soul perished the earth was through' - it really gives a depth to mankind and the selfishness of other souls in my opinion.

Thank you for this poem.

Thank you Goddess :)

Being relatively new to poetry I'm still trying to understand form and punctuation. Anyone who would care to jump right in an instruct me feel free...:)
