Blood Stained Words
By Cream
17 June 2008
This is not a dark or negative poem, it's about getting rid of painful memories through writing. The blood here symbolizes the life that's coming up again and helping to erase the pain. It's not about dying and it's not about cutting veins or anything, it's just liberation. Thank you!

Silent tears fall constantly

Some rain on any autumns day

All alone wrapped up in darkness

Pen and paper rescued me

Blood dripping out of painful wounds

Words written for eternity

The grief, the loss, the bitter truth

Write and erase my memory

A drop of blood falls on an 'F'

Seems like the 'F' was bound to die

More bleeding letters, bleeding words

The paper soaked with liquid life

One last word and I am free

I'll leave them for eternity

I leave them be ... the blood stained words

I found this a little too sentimental, but I do understand where you are coming from. I especially liked 'paper soaked with liquid life'. I find the poems like prose are strong when they show rather than tell.

I have discovered that the writers I like, almost all of them have come through deep personal suffering. I do wonder if it is a requirement for all writers and artists. I just hope it is not perpetual!

I look forward to reading more of your work on GW.
