Just a melancholy ditty . . .
Cheers!
John X
Sunrise over Heaven
The sun was at my rising,
I was at Heavens’ behest -
swallowed an Alka-Seltzer
and tried to do my best
to swallow last night’s bitter pill
of shallowness unforgiven
to make amends for what we’ve lost
and for what we’ve always striven.
Forgive all that I have given you
and all I’ve left behind –
you know that old saying , my Dear,
‘What Love says is blind’?
Now go, go to the darkness
of neurotic fantasy –
whenever you conjure a devil,
he will look just like me.
But please remember the wurtles
and the play we had with words –
pack them into your suitcase
along with other nurds
of rhyme and rhythm we once shared
and now must throw away . . .
I’d give my life and so much more
to see you again one day.

Timing and themes are fantastic Written by Adam_S (11 comments posted) 18th June 2008 | I really liked this poem it had a lovely beat to it that ran throughout. It dealt with some great themes such as death, live after death, forgiveness etc. It was a piece of work I wish I had written and having now read it twice it still doesn't lose its charm. | Written by Josie (2943 comments posted) 18th June 2008 | | Yes, you have a well structured poem here John, but, goodness, there is a lot of sadness coming out of it. |
